Who can become an AmeriCorps member?
National Health Corps (NHC) Philadelphia members must be 18 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen or permanent U.S. resident, and have a high school diploma or G.E.D. We value individuals who have already demonstrated a commitment to service through previous volunteer work and who have an interest in a career in the health professions or human services.
How do I become a NHC Philadelphia member?
If you are interested in serving as a NHC member, the first step is completing an application.
Once your application is reviewed and approved, you will be contacted to complete a questionaire via email and asked to return it to the NHC Program Staff. Our interview process has two steps. First, applicants are interviewed by the program director. If you are selected to move forward, applicants are asked to review position descriptions and select their first, second, and third choices. After your materials are forward to those sites, they will review your materials and contact you if they would like to schedule an interview. If after the interview with the host site supervisor, the applicant and host site believe the placement would be a good match, then you are placed there. We seek to build mutual beneficials partnerships for both the host site and the member. Interviews begin in the spring and continue through the summer until all placements are finalized.
When Should I Apply?
NHC Philadelphia conducts interviews during the spring and summer months and enrolls members in late August/September. However, we occasionally have mid-year placements. Please contact us to find out more about current program offerings.
