City of Brotherly Love
"Philly" is home to 1.5 million residents, fabulous and fiesty sports teams and fans, the Liberty Bell, the soft-pretzel and famous cheesesteaks and hoagies. The history and character of our landmarks and people make this city an exciting place to live, serve and have fun!
While preventing disease from happening should remain an overall goal of public health, we must remember that management of disease continues to be of extreme importance. Direct service will always remain a central part of healthcare, and we must strive to meet patients where they are rather than where we think they should be.
They say raising a child takes a village, and I believe the same concept can be applied to the opioid epidemic. To truly provide the best care for a patient, a group effort is required. One organization cannot provide every service possible.
In meeting with patients, I find myself addressing problems with their housing, mental health, family issues, not having enough food, clothing and many other things. While serving in this capacity, I realized that my role was more than providing health insurance; I am a listening ear and a connection to resources patients never knew existed or need help accessing.
