What is your title and role at your host site?

Patient Navigator (Patient Population Management Specialist) at Squirrel Hill Health Center-Brentwood

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?

For the last couple of years, I have been particularly interested in better understanding why health disparities arise, and hopefully, how we can improve them. Throughout my undergraduate years, I received extensive laboratory and scientific training, but I realized that my experience in low income health care is rather limited. I was motivated to join the NHC because I wanted to have a positive impact on the community while also broadening my experiences with underserved patients.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?

I want to have a positive impact on the community and the individuals in need of health services. Along the way, I hope to gain valuable skills that will help me to better serve patients as a physician.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?

I plan to attend Medical School

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?

I hope to be finishing medical school and beginning my residency
