Educational background: B.Sc. Molecular Biology, Spanish and Chemistry Minor, Conceptual Foundations of Medicine Certificate - University of Pittsburgh ‘17
What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be serving as a Patient Navigator/Advocate. I will be serving in various roles at the Birmingham Clinic and within PHCUP that deal with patient advocacy, case management, health screening, PAP facilitation, and health education.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined AmeriCorps because I have a passion for serving others. I specifically chose to serve with National Health Corps Pittsburgh because I seek to gain a greater understanding of healthcare in underserved communities. This is a specific area of medicine that I want to be involved in one day as a physician and my love of service has enlivened this mission. NHC will help give me some exposure to this area of healthcare and give me the opportunity to create relationships with patients in the Pittsburgh community as I serve.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain some practical clinical experience working at the Birmingham Clinic, but also some exposure and a greater understanding of the specific health barriers of underserved populations here in Pittsburgh.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I plan on attending medical school after my service with AmeriCorps.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I envision myself starting my residency after completing medical school (fingers crossed!).
