B.A. in Public Health and Minor in Communication from American University
What is your title and role at your host site?
I’m a Community Health and Prevention Coordinator at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh.
Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined National Health Corps because I was looking for a meaningful public health opportunity post-grad. NHC seemed like an incredible opportunity to help expose me to new areas of public health through direct service, while also encouraging allowing me to explore my other public health interests.
What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I’m hoping to gain experience that can help me grow both professionally and personally. Working in the community health department, I’m hoping to gain a deeper understanding of community health and barriers to care. My service site allows me to work with many different organizations and it’s been a great way to explore Pittsburgh and connect with those in the community.
What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
I’m not sure yet! So far, my plan is to take this year to figure out what type of work I want to pursue and then find another gap year program or position while I apply for graduate school to get an MPH.
Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I have no idea where I’ll be in 5 years, but I hope to be doing public health work that I’m passionate about and where I’m able to work in the community.
