Educational background: BA in Sociology, Minor in Chemistry, Certificates in American Sign Language and Helping Professions

What is your title and role at your host site?
I will be serving at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC - Office of Health Improvement Partnerships/Community Health as Community Health and Prevention Coordinator. In this position, I will provide training to partners and staff of school in the Pittsburgh community implementing programs such as Healthy Schools, Healthy Out-of-School Time, and Healthy Way to Grow to improve the health environments of the student

Why did you join AmeriCorps/National Health Corps?
I joined AmeriCorps because I have done previous programs of service in AmeriCorps and loved the experiences and relationships I gained from those experiences. I specifically decided on the NHC because I hope to one-day work in health care and hope my experiences in this program will provide me with insight and understanding of what I will face in the future.

What are you hoping to gain from your year of service?
I hope to gain a greater understanding of the communities I will be working in and specifically have a greater understanding of the health-related obstacles families are facing in our communities. I am excited to learn from my new peers and their experiences at their positions, along with the staff I will be working with at my host site.  I also hope to make some lasting relationships along the way.

What are your plans after AmeriCorps service?
Apply to medical school and start on my next journey.

Where do you envision yourself in 5 years?
I hope to be finishing up medical school and starting future steps of my career.
